St George Trek at Philmont

The National Catholic Committee on Scouting┬« is pleased to announce its high adventure leadership program for older Catholic Boy Scouts and Venture Crew members at Philmont Scout Ranch. Designed to develop organizational and relational skills for leadership as well as nourishing the scout's spirituality, the program will bring Catholic high school youth from around the country together with selected priests, religious and seminarians for eleven days of backpacking on the trail including three days of intensive leadership training at a back country base camp.   See their website at http://www.nccs-bsa.org/ScoutUnits/StGeorgeTrek.php for more details and cost.

The Trek is scheduled to begin in Albuquerque NM on Wednesday, July 10, 2013, participants will returning home from Albuquerque on Thursday, July 25, 2013.  The dates of the Trek do conflict with the National Jamboree and World Youth Day in Brazil.  We do realize that there are scouts who would like to do all three events, however, these dates were a result of the coordination of the availability of Philmont, the retreat house in Albuquerque and the schedules of the Trek leadership.

Attached  you will find the participant application and diocesan approval forms.  These are new forms, please do not submit older versions.  Participants cannot nominate themselves for the program, they are submitted by the DCCS as worthy candidates.  Candidates should be mature in their faith as well as physically, mentally and emotionally capable of participating in the Trek.  Contact the Scoutmaster if you are interested in attending. Financial assistance may be available.
